Best to pull back at a top corner and reach in with a screwdriver to release the V-shaped metal clip, one in each corner. It was easier to pull the plastic seat back covers off while the seats were in the car. I had a friend help me rotate the seats out of the car, and then put them on a table with a moving blanket on it for disassembly. I did not disconnect my battery and did not die or kill any modules. It left out a few little things, mostly it is fighting with the little plastic covers. I do have an airbag light on now as expected. I have INPA and a laptop so I want to disable the occupancy sensor, I also considered buying a module to simulate the sensor, or stringing a wire from the drivers seat sensor over to the passenger seat and tricking the car. This sensor tells the car if the passenger seat is occupied by a human large enough to not be injured by an airbag deployment. I still have not decided what to do with the passenger seat occupancy sensor - it is bonded between the leather and foam padding and is not connected as it now sits on the drivers side. The result is a firm just like new drivers seat for zero dollars! It did take 4 hours of careful meticulous work though. Also I suspected a frame or spring failure and found an 2 inch crack in the lower seat frame, so I fixed that during the process. The old drivers seat was not real bad - I don't think any passenger will ever notice - but the prior owner of my car was 6'6" tall and probably 280 pounds so the seat got some wear.
This way I got fresh new leather and cushions on the drivers seat. The bottom seat frames are specific for each side and can't be swapped. I switched the seat backs side for side, and switched the bottom seat pads with the leather attached side for side. My seats are basic electric memory seats, they are NOT sport or Comfort. Mostly it was a lot of fiddling with covers and connectors, and hauling the seats in and out of the car. I will list out the steps and put in links to sites that helped me. I apologize for not being able to post pictures or create a DIY as we are all used to, I'm not there yet. After lots of searching and studying of parts I went for it and it is done. I had a saggy drivers seat in my 2004 BMW 525i and a pristine passenger seat and got the idea to swap the seats.
